Set to kick off this Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa, the Pig Jig will bring together barbecue and music fans all to benefit the NephCure Kidney International.
The Tampa Pig Jig began in 2011 as a backyard barbecue competition to raise money to find a cure for Tampa-native Will Wellman, who suffers from a debilitating kidney disease, FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis). While the event has far outgrown its first location, the original friends who dreamed up the event are still at the helm and the event continues to be 100 percent volunteer run. To date, the Tampa Pig Jig has raised more than $1 million for NephCure.
The event will include a corporate barbecue competition with 50 teams and a host of local celebrity judges, live music from award- winning artists, games, a silent auction, and delicious food and drinks.
The musical lineup for the 2015 Tampa Pig Jig features Tampa-native, Allen Hunt; Jason Cardinal, Mark Bryan of Hootie & the Blowfish; JT Hodges; Nikki Lane; The Revivalists; and more. Headlining is the Eli Young Band – a group with three No. 1 hits, a Grammy nomination and an Academy of Country Music Award for Song of the Year with “Crazy Girl.” Additional family-friendly activities will include food trucks, a mechanical bull, and much more.
General Admission tickets are $25; children under the age of 12 are free. A limited number of VIP tickets are available for $125 and include entry into the event, access to the Pig Jig BBQ Pit area where guests can mingle with sponsors and taste competition barbecue, plus admission into the VIP Party Area where patrons will enjoy complimentary food, beer and wine.
