What began with a simple idea to recognize the economic impact of local artists throughout the City of St. Petersburg has become a passion project for Laurie Stogniew, event chair and founder of Bayshore Marketing Group. “We feel the need to promote their talents and celebrate the contribution they have made in making St. Petersburg the thriving art community it is,” said Laurie Stogniew. It began back in April, when a call to local artists was made and the the response fantastic. The community voted on their favor paintings and the top three winners with have their designs turned into server ties to be worn by The Birchwood staff.

“We are thrilled to host the First Annual Art Ties Us Gala in our Grand Ballroom and intend to host this event every year,” said Chuck Prather, owner of The Birchwood. “Recognizing the talents of our local artists and the economic impact they have made in our community is overdue.  It will be an honor for our staff to wear neckties in the likeness of the winning paintings!”

The Gala will be held in The Grand Ballroom of The Birchwood on Friday, July 27 and will be hosted by former news anchor Heather Van Nest and current anchor for 10 News, Reginald Roundtree.

The evening will kick off with an open bar and tastings from six top local restaurants, who support the arts and segue into a program that will highlight talent from local artists.  A live and silent auction will consist of the artwork submitted to the contest.  Participating restaurants include Birch & Vine, The Mill, Stillwater Tavern, 1200 Chophouse, 400 Beach and Mac Dinton’s.

Fifty percent of the proceeds for each auctioned painting will go to The Public Art Project and the other fifty percent will go directly to the artist who painted the piece.  The Public Art Project will use the proceeds from Gala to fund programs that increase students’ academic and social success with a focus on elementary schools and students in the City of St. Petersburg, Florida.
