Interior of 3 Daughters Brewing in Tampa Bay

3 Daughters Brewing

METRO found five local breweries serving up cold, local brews in hip, casual settings.

From the oldest, continuous running microbrewery in Florida, Dunedin Brewery, to the latest Ybor City brewery, Coppertail Brewing Co., it is trendy to gather and taste the local blends with friends. Try all five and let us know which are your favorites. Cheers!

CigarCity

Cigar City Brewing

I’m partial to the Jai Alia IPA, but with the fall season just around the corner, Cigar City has released the Good Gourd, Imperial Pumpkin Ale. The seasonal brew is bursting with pumpkin flavor and spices of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Brewery tours are available Wed. – Sunday – with 5 or 6 times throughout the day. Sign up at the bar 10 minutes before the tour begins. Cost is $5.35 pp and includes a CCB glass to take home and a 16 oz beer on the tour. For a dining experience, the Cigar City Pub opened in Carrollwood in 2013 with a delicious Cuban influenced menu, along with the CCB brews.

Green Bench Brewing Company

As St. Petersburg first craft microbrewery, Green Bench offers a great place for the community to gather and taste the best locally crafted beers. The outdoor, covered Beer Garden provides a great spot to sip and people watch including weekly yoga classes. The Green Bench IPA and Sunshine City IPA are personal favorites, along with Stay Dry Stout – a black colored brew packed with flavors of chocolate, dark caramel and coffee. There are about 15 beers on tap, so get a flight to determine your favorite. No food is served, but there are plenty of restaurants nearby to satisfy your hunger.

Coppertail Brewing Co.

Founded by Kent Baily and Casey Hughes, Coppertail is the area’s newest production brewery located in Ybor City. Offering four house beers and a number of limited releases throughout the year, there are currently 16 beers on tap. Coppertail Brewing Co. uses natural carbonation, whole leaf hops and they don’t filter their beer. A personal favorite is the Coppertail Free Dive IPA which has hints of citrus and pine – perfect for a sweltering day in Tampa. Tasting room hours open Mon. – Fri. at 4 p.m., Sat. at 2 p.m. and Sun. at Noon.
