Custom Davis Islands
Waterfront Estate
Step inside the recently completed custom home on Davis Islands, and you will feel an immediate sense of peace and tranquility. The home was built by Sable Construction, and the late architect and designer Thomas Everett Lamb. The homeowners hired McKinlay Rose Interiors to select all the materials and finishes for the interior.
The three-story modern designed home has 10,000 square feet with five bedrooms, and four and a half bathrooms, rooftop deck, custom walk-in wine cellar, elevator and took over three years to complete.
The design uses relaxed neutral color palette of creams, whites and grays, along with luxurious textures and pops of teal and gold. Interior designers Kristen McKinlay and Melanie Rose from McKinlay Rose Interiors took over the project management and completed the project. “It’s all about bringing together the clients style in a unique way to build a beautiful design,” says Melanie Rose. “In other words, it’s all about how you put it together.” The open-concept floor plan showcases the spacious feel and allows natural light to make each room feel brighter and more welcoming. The over-sized windows and glass front door creates a connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
It is said that the heart of the home is the kitchen and any chef would be delighted to prepare meals in this spectacular space that takes center stage. From floor to ceiling, the kitchen area is functional yet showcases the elegance of the design and allows for ease of entertaining. The large expansive triple glass windows allow plenty of natural light to spill into the kitchen area.
The double chandeliers are a classic form where the graphic modern design showcases its simplicity. The six-light chandelier provides plenty of light, without dominating the space. The kitchen island is Cambria Quartz with a a beautiful beige countertop design. The Beaumont features dramatic veining and glamours gold sparkle. Seating features custom embossed crocodile superior leather barstools and are designed with antique gold nailheads. The sleek white cabinetry is accented with lucite acrylic and matte gold cabinet pulls. The appliances are commercial grade stainless steel, while the double refrigerator has custom panels that blends seamlessly with the cabinetry. A wine cooler will showcase some of your favorite bottles.
A focal point of the floor plan is the walk-in wine room that greets guests and anchors the dining area. The rectangular table with over-sized high-back chairs seats eight. The buffet with its light oak finish and alligator textured fronts add visual interest and additional storage space.
The guest bathroom Pompeii Quartz counter top is inspired by the beauty of natural stone. The Extra, Extra white quartz is the creation of a surface that reflects fresh natural complexion and compliments a modern lifestyle. The beauty, quality and effortless care is achieved when using the Pompeii Quartz. The shower is accented with a decorative Sequoia Polished Linear Mosaic. The white color enhances the space with the long lines of linear shaped glass. Straight and perfectly cut-to-size edges of the decorative insert creates continuity.
The pool bathroom uses the Pompeii Quartz counter top, while the Bianco Carrara Thassos Parquet Marble Mosaic makes a timeless statement with the unique veining adding artistic flair and camouflages any wear and tear that may occur. The shower tile adds movement to the space with a glossy wave tile. Two sconces with plated polished chrome create the soft contemporary look with the white fabric shade.
The owner’s suite offers a soothing look with dark wood flooring and dark gray walls accented with with crisp, white molding. The focal point of the owner’s bathroom is a freestanding soaking tub with modern faucets in chrome. A chandelier adds a luxurious touch to the room. The room offer a place for hair and make-up with a built-in vanity area. The sconces on either side of the mirror have strands of cascading crystals from an antique silver wall mounted sconce. The double sinks with twin oval mirrors are lighted with the same sconces with the hanging crystals. The cabinets have Glacio knobs offering sleek and minimalist design almost blending crystal-clear access with the metallic mounted finishes for an ethereal look and feel.
“We infused the very modern architecture with an elegant style to soften the mood,” says Kristen McKinlay.” Every material, lighting fixture and procured furnishing was done to compliment the outside beauty of the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Davis Islands waterfront. M
